3 Altruistic Hobbies to Start in 2015

Get a running start in 2015 by modifying some everyday activities. Even if the change is small, it can still have a great impact. Start a couple new hobbies (or continue your present hobbies) to help others in need. Not only will you be relaxing, but you’ll be giving back to your community. Here are three ideas of altruistic hobbies to start in 2015:

Knitting for the homeless—While there are various shelters in your community, some may be at capacity and find it difficult to take in all of the homeless at night. During the winter, sleeping outside can be especially dangerous. Help the homeless by knitting scarves, hats and gloves to keep warm during the winter months.

Making blankets for animals in shelters—Animals are lonely without families in shelters and seek comfort from toys. Make tie blankets to help the animals feel more secure and soothed at the shelter.

Read to children—Seek out a youth shelter or adoption agency in your community and volunteer to host a reading time, where you read books to young children. It’s a great way to engage their imagination and a way for you to give back.
